Lion Ventures is 100% managed by previously successful entrepreneurs. The Advisory Committee are all founders of their own businesses. This positions Lion Ventures to understand the challenges of growing a company and to work alongside our partner companies rather than impose heavy terms and reporting requirements. Fundamentally this is a philosophical departure from the existing early-stage venture capital landscape and will attract the best founders and companies who recognise a partnership beyond the value of invested capital.
Australia has a proud history of Chinese migration and settlement. The earliest arrival is reported to have been Mak Sai Ying who landed as a free settler at Port Jackson on the “Laurel” on 27 February 1818. Mak Sai Ying possessed an entrepreneurial spirit and became the first Australia-Chinese publican, opening The Golden Lion Hotel in Church Street, Parramatta.
200 years since Mak Sai Ying’s arrival to Australia, we have named our fund Lion Ventures, acknowledging the background of our investors, our targeted growth path into China and to celebrate entrepreneurial spirit.
